Teleprompter for Mac
Teleprompter app for Mac: read your script right by the webcam
Scrollglass works as a teleprompter app for Mac on Macs with Apple silicon and macOS 26 or later, where it runs as the iPad app and comes with the same purchase. It isn't a native Mac app and doesn't run on Intel Macs: on a Mac, you read and rehearse your script by the webcam, and you record on iPhone or iPad.

The short answer
- On a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 26 or later, Scrollglass runs as the iPad app (“Designed for iPad”). It's not a native Mac app, and Intel Macs can't run it.
- One purchase covers iPhone, iPad and Mac: $29.99 once, with no subscription. Writing, reading and rehearsing are free forever.
- On Mac, use it to read notes on video calls, rehearse out loud and show only the script in Prompt mode, with voice follow or a steady speed.
- To record takes with the Eye Line right under the camera, use your iPhone or iPad.
- Whatever app you use, put the script at the top center of the screen, right under the webcam, and keep the lines short.
Is there a teleprompter app for Mac?
Yes. Any app that shows your script in a window can work as a teleprompter on a Mac. What matters is where that window sits and how the text moves while you talk.
Scrollglass is a teleprompter app for iPhone and iPad, coming soon to the App Store. Macs with Apple silicon can run iPad apps, so on those Macs, with macOS 26 or later, Scrollglass runs as the iPad app. Apple labels apps like this “Designed for iPad.” It looks and works like the iPad version, in a Mac window, and it's included in the same purchase.
It's not a native Mac app, and it doesn't run on Intel Macs, which can't run iPad apps at all. To check your Mac, open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. If you see Chip with an Apple chip, such as Apple M1 or newer, you're set. If you see Processor with an Intel name, it won't run.
What you can do with a teleprompter app on Mac
- Read your notes on video calls. Open Scrollglass next to Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams and read while you look at the camera. More in our teleprompter for Zoom guide.
- Show only the script. Prompt mode shows the script on its own, without recording.
- Let the text follow your voice. Voice follow listens through your Mac's microphone. It waits when you pause, catches up when you skip ahead and ignores ad-libs.
- Or set a steady speed. Choose words per minute, or use “Finish in” so the script ends at a time you pick.
- Rehearse out loud. Rehearse mode is free forever, so run your talk as many times as you need.
To record takes, use your iPhone or iPad. Scrollglass is built around their front camera: the Eye Line keeps the line you're reading right under the lens, and each take goes straight to Photos.
Where to put a teleprompter window near your webcam
These tips work with any script window. The shorter the trip from the words to the lens, the more you look like you're talking, not reading.
- Top center, right under the camera. The built-in camera on a MacBook or iMac sits in the middle of the top edge. Drag the script window up against it.
- Keep lines short. Five to eight words per line keeps your eyes from sweeping left and right. In Scrollglass, narrow the text width.
- Read near the top. The lower your eyes drop on the screen, the more viewers notice.
- Sit back a little. At arm's length or farther, small eye movements barely show on camera. Raise the text size to match.
- Camera at eye level. Put a laptop on a stand or a few books, so the camera looks straight at you, not up at your chin.
- External webcam or second display? Mount the camera on top of the screen that shows your script, centered above the window.
- Share a window, not your whole screen. Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams let you share a single window or tab, so your notes stay off the shared view.
- Silence notifications. Turn on Do Not Disturb so banners don't pop up over your script mid-sentence.
Can you record videos with a teleprompter on Mac?
Yes, with a split setup. With Scrollglass, the Mac is for reading and rehearsing, and you record your takes on iPhone or iPad, where the Eye Line sits right under the front camera. One purchase covers all three.
If you'd rather record on the Mac itself, QuickTime Player can record from your webcam: choose File, then New Movie Recording. Keep your script window right under the camera while it runs.
Either way, time your script first with the free script timer, and check your pace with the words-per-minute calculator. Most people sound natural on camera at about 130 to 160 words per minute.
How to use a teleprompter on your Mac during a video call
- Check your MacScrollglass needs a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 26 or later. Intel Macs aren't supported.
- Add your scriptPaste it, or import a PDF, RTF, Markdown or plain-text file. For calls, short lines and key points read better than long paragraphs.
- Open Prompt modePrompt mode shows only the script, without recording.
- Place it under the webcamMove the window to the top center of the screen. Narrow the text width and raise the text size until you can read it sitting back.
- Choose how it scrollsLet voice follow keep pace with you, or set a steady speed in words per minute. In Ukrainian and languages voice follow doesn't cover, the text scrolls at a steady speed.
- Share a window, not your screenIf you present, share only the window or tab you're presenting, so your notes stay private.
Frequently asked questions
Is Scrollglass a native Mac app?
No. Scrollglass is an iPhone and iPad app. On Macs with Apple silicon and macOS 26 or later, it runs as the iPad app, in a Mac window, and it looks and works like the iPad version.
Does Scrollglass work on Intel Macs?
No. Only Macs with Apple silicon can run iPad apps, so Scrollglass doesn't run on Intel Macs, even ones with macOS 26. To check, open About This Mac and look for an Apple chip, such as Apple M1 or newer.
Do I have to buy Scrollglass again for my Mac?
No. One purchase covers iPhone, iPad and Mac: $29.99 once, with no subscription, and Family Sharing is on. Writing, reading and rehearsing are free forever. See pricing.
Can people on my video call see my teleprompter?
Not unless you share it. Your webcam shows you, not your screen. If you share your screen, share a single window or tab instead of the entire screen, so your script stays off the shared view.
Does voice follow work on a Mac?
Yes. Voice follow listens through your Mac's microphone and runs on your device, so it works offline. The first time you use a language, your Mac may download Apple's speech model. It works in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Arabic, Russian, Turkish and Dutch, depending on the device.
Is there a free teleprompter for Mac?
Yes, for reading. In Scrollglass, writing, reading and rehearsing are free forever. Recording, on iPhone or iPad, is free for 7 days from your first take, then $29.99 once. The trial isn't a subscription and can't charge you.
